2023 Garden Tour

Six homeowners will be opening their beautiful gardens for you to view on Saturday, June 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and on Sunday, June 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 and may be purchased at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper, in Lawrence; online using the link below, and at any of the participating gardens. Anyone age 10 or older needs to purchase a ticket to view the gardens. Proceeds from the tour support the Douglas County Extension Master Gardeners activities and public programs.

Order your Garden Tour tickets online. In-person ticket purchases at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, or at any of the other gardens, must be paid with cash or check. If you don’t have cash or check, you can order a ticket online from the garden using a QR code that will be posted at each garden.

Check out this Garden Tour map and directions before you begin your tour. It begins at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, but you can start at any point.

No matter if you are a novice or experienced gardener, you will also benefit from taking time to explore the Douglas County Extension Demonstration Gardens at the fairgrounds. This educational garden is home to over ten themed garden beds designed to inspire and educate. Each bed highlights plant diversity and offers ideas on how to maximize your landscape under any circumstance. Interested in low maintenance? Drought tolerant plants such as milkweeds, Shasta daisies, oriental poppies, peonies and liatris come together in the Xeriscape garden to provide bright colors in a dry setting.  Is too much water the issue that prevents you from utilizing your garden space? Then come and explore the rain garden and learn about irises, turtleheads, sedges and other plants that like wet feet.

Each of the homeowners selected for the 2023 tour has a story to share of how they began developing their gardens into spaces of beauty designed to delight and inspire. We will be adding details about each of the gardens by early May.

Some gardens will require moving over unpaved or uneven surfaces. If this is a concern, please call the Douglas County Extension office at 785-843-7058 for more information. We ask that children be closely supervised, both for their protection and respect for our homeowners.
